Star citation awarded to First Lieutenant Ronald A. Sharek, May 17, 1971
First Lieutenant Ronald A. Sharek distinguished himself by
gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing
armed force in Southeast Asia on 13 December l970. On that date,
Lieutenant Sharek was scrambled from the Phan Rang Alert Complex as
number two in a flight of F100s in support of friendly troops surrounded
by a vastly overwhelming hostile force. Lieutenant Sharek
made multiple passes delivering his ordnance as low as three hundred
feet above the terrain at minimum safe distance from the friendly forces
while receiving intense anti-aircraft fire which he elected to disregard
and in so doing was directly responsible for saving the lives of two
hundred and fifty friendly soldiers and an entire city from hostile
control. By his gallantry and devotion to duty Lieutenant
Sharek has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air
Force.

June 14, 1971
First Lieutenant Ronald A. Sharek distinguished himself by
extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an
F100 Tactical Fighter Pilot near Danang, Republic of Vietnam on 17
October l970. On that date, Lieutenant Sharek was number two in
a flight of two F100s on a divert strike to aid friendly forces under
heavy hostile attack. With hindrances of low clouds, mountainous
terrain, and heavy hostile resistance, Lieutenant Sharek flew
an extremely tenacious and accurate attack against the hostile light
artillery and heavy automatic weapons. As a result
of Lieutenant Sharek's expert weapons delivery in the face of heavy
fire, the hostile force was silenced and the friendly troops were able
to mount a successful offensive. The professional competence, aerial
skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Sharek reflect great
credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

First Lieutenant Ronald A. Sharek distinguished himself by
extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an
F-100 Tactical Fighter Pilot near Pleiku,
Republic
of
Vietnam
, on
16 February 1971
. On that date, Lieutenant Sharek led a flight in support of friendly
troops in contact with a numerically superior hostile force. With low
visibility and mountainous terrain complicating the situation,
Lieutenant Sharek made four low-angle deliveries along the perimeter of
the friendlies’, through heavy ground fire, delivering all ordnance
directly on target. As a result of Lieutenant Sharek’s outstanding
piloting skill and composure under pressure, the hostile advances were
thwarted and the lives of many friendly soldiers saved. The professional
competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant
Sharek reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air
Force.

First Lieutenant Ronald A. Sharek distinguished himself by
meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight as an
F-100 Tactical Fighter Pilot in
Southeast Asia

28 November 1970
. On that date, Lieutenant Sharek was the wingman in a flight of two
F-l00s on an active scramble to aid friendly forces under heavy attack.
Despite marginal weather, close proximity of friendly troops, and
intense ground fire, Lieutenant Sharek flew tenacious and superbly
accurate attack, completely decimating the hostile force, even while
suffering hits to his own aircraft. The professional skill, and
airmanship displayed by Lieutenant Sharek reflect great credit upon
himself and the United States Air Force.
